2025 Photo Biennial

Finding Home Photographs by David Modica

Facebook: /david.modica.9 Instagram: @davidmodica_

Dates: September 5 – November 9, 2025

Events: Opening Reception Saturday, September 27, 4-7pm

David Modica is a fine art photographer living in New Albany, Indiana. A retired from teacher in photography at Ivy Tech Community College, David also had a lengthy career as a commercial photographer.

Modica expresses his personal vision in black and white film and prints in a traditional darkroom. He has an affinity for historic buildings and architecture, urban landscape, and story telling through documentary photography. His most recent projects include researching and photographing his father’s home country of Sicily, Italy, as well as the blues trail in the North Mississippi Delta.

Growing up, my family identified as Italian. Studying my father’s heritage, I realized that we had Italian blood, but that we were truly Sicilian.

Finding Home is a visual and spiritual exploration. Many of the images that make up this ongoing body of work were taken in the town of Modica, Sicily, where I have spent  the majority of my time. The photos explore the culture, people, and places that connect me to Sicily.
